The Top Coffee Shops in Thessaloniki

The Top Coffee Shops in Thessaloniki
By Maria Athanasopoulou

Thessaloniki is a beautiful and lively city that has a lot to offer to its visitors. One of the characteristics of its inhabitants – in fact, one shared by most Greeks – is their love of good coffee. Consequently, visitors are often surprised just how many great places there are in Thessaloniki – home to some of the country’s top attractions – to enjoy a good coffee.

So that you’re prepared when you arrive, here are a few of my top coffee shops in Thessaloniki. I hope you’ll visit and enjoy them as much as I do!

Boheme is a beautiful place situated right next to the sea that serves coffee from the morning and right throughout the day. It’s especially pleasant sitting here and enjoying a coffee in the summer when you can drink your beverage outdoors overlooking the Thermaic (Thermaikos) Gulf. It helps, too, that they serve very good coffee… which explains why Boheme is widely considered one of the most famous places in the city!

Skyline Café-Bar

At Skyline Café-Bar, located in the impressive OTE Tower, you can enjoy your coffee in a place that actually rotates slowly around, and provides the opportunity to see Thessaloniki from above as you enjoy the most beautiful views of the city. It’s a very elegant place… and the coffee is really good. In recent years it has become an increasingly popular spot for many tourists to visit; not just for the great coffee, but for the panoramic views over Thessaloniki and the sea.

Kafe Passion

Kafe Passion is another of the top coffee shops in Thessaloniki and is a very special place in the city center that’s popular with locals and tourists alike. Here you can enjoy various kinds of coffee and chocolate, meet the regulars, and get a real taste of authentic Thessaloniki. Its recipe for success? This wonderfully unique café was created by people who know and appreciate the world of coffee!

Café Palermo

This atmospheric café is located in Aristotelous Square, a lovely public space right in the very center of the city and widely considered by locals and visitors alike as the most beautiful corner of Thessaloniki. Café Palermo is found on the first floor of a beautiful traditional building overlooking the center of the square itself, and serves very good coffee.

Address: Aristotelous 8, Thessaloniki

Émigré Café Bar

This is a place with a very special and unique identity… and it’s always fun. Located next to the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center, not only is it one of the top coffee shops in Thessaloniki, but you can also purchase refreshing fresh juices and other beverages. But be warned: thanks to its location near the city’s promenade, Émigré Café Bar is as popular with locals as it is with tourists, and so is almost always crowded… but a short wait here for a table is well worth it!

Address: Al. Svollou 54, Thessaloniki

Makedonia Palace Hotel

Not only is the elegant Makedonia Palace Hotel one of the top luxury hotels in Thessaloniki, its location on the city’s promenade means it too is a great place to enjoy a morning coffee. In addition to its great service (such friendly and professional staff!), the hotel adds a few nice touches, including a ‘sweet spoon’ to sweeten the coffee, as well as delicious crisp biscuits to accompany your hot beverage. Highly recommended
